Weeks 13-15
Week 12-13 Single Tree Arts “Back to Basics” Postal/Mail Art Exhibition. We received a submission from artist Carlos Garcia. “Whistlers Bother in Isolation”, digital print, 2020. This piece literally tips its hat to the famous painting “Arrangement in Gray and Black number 1” or “Whistlers Mother”. The work is very theatrical in its portrayal of movement and is an in depth study in portraiture. There is an inherent sense of humor in the piece and brings to mind early motion picture experiments and imagery related to Pop Art.
12-13 Single Tree Arts “Back to Basics” Postal/Mail Art Exhibition. We received two submissions from artist Katie Lipsitt. “Looking Inward”, collage and watercolor,2020 and I’m So Sorry That You Can’t Get Out of Your Head”, collage and watercolor, 2020. Both pieces create a wonderful juxtaposition between watercolor imagery and print collage and are reminiscent of Matisse collage work. They speak to this time, and many people’s focus on intense introspection.
